Hey Writing Friends, A Song for You!

Writers who are serious about writing, understand the seasons of struggle.

Writers also may become discouraged. It is hard to explain to people who do not write, the energy needed to write.

I stumbled on this song today, and I thought this may possibly, encourage you to keep on trying. Keep on writing even if you fear failure.

Born Not to Quit, Resilience

My word for Monday was RESILIENCE

Yesterday was a great day. I worked on my Go Fund Campaign. It is moving slow, but I am determined to continue on. I was chatting with a friend Monday evening, and she agreed with me as we chatted, about tough financial times in the past, but as we look back we are reminded that we made it through.

I think back to the time when I became a single mom, and lived on $200 per week. The loss of my job a few years ago, walking in the snow, and in the rain to go to the bank, and pick up my groceries. The loss of my car, because I could not make the payments, and many more struggles, but I made it through.

A constant time of living on the edge of homelessness, and yet staying off the street, and moving forward.

It seems I was born with the buzzword of today. The word is resilience. If you are not familiar with the word resilience it is defined as; the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness, the ability of a substance or object to spring back into shape; elasticity.

No matter how hard I fall, or what happens I am able to eventually get back up. I may fall apart in the background, confess my struggle to people close to me, and then get back up and continue on. I may cry and not understand, but I continue on.

During the worst of times, I launched Relationships of the Heart, published 2 books, and I traveled to Tanzania, India, Japan, and Kenya.

AND now, I am stepping back into the public eye once again. This time it will be online and offline. God and I had a short meeting on Sunday during a message from my Pastor. I had one conversation about this with a friend. I am in a season even if I am low on finances, I will not give up, and I will not quit.

I will move ahead with the out of state radio interview, the ad placements for my book in 3 counties, and allowing the radio station to place my live interview on a morning show, and the evening news.

The enemy of my soul, always fights against me in one area of my life when I take a leap of faith. The area is in finances. I will not quit, and I will not back down, even when I receive messages telling me that I should quit.

I did not walk through this fire to quit at the age of 60.

My Grandmother lived to be 101, and she reminded me when she was in her 90’s, “Nancy do not wait to do what you know you are to do. Do it while you are able.”

AND so I continue on in the battle. Cherishing my Grandmother’s words, and my growing up years with my Father, who constantly said, “Don’t quit Nancy. Yes, you can do this.”

Onward I go, even when I do not know how everything will work out. I hope you will do the same, in the middle of your struggles and uncertainties.

Writing and Radio Stations

I am on day 5 of writing copy and crowdfunding. (For details see previous post.) It is Saturday morning, and I am surprised I still have words pouring out of me to write.

On day 5 of my 12 hour days, I am still pushing through with my crowdfunding and all kinds of small snippets of writing.

If you are a writing and you desire to publish, it will be necessary for you to be part of the promotion of your book. It is the world we live in!

Yesterday I wrote the following;

This is an excerpt from my latest community news. When we least expect it the doors swing open, and opportunities arrive.

I smile and I laugh, when I reflect on the photo below. I am the oldest daughter of 5 children. When I think of what I am stepping into today I am amazed.

I had no idea when I was 10 years old, surrounded by my siblings, holding my brother, that someday I would travel outside of the USA equipping and training leaders, write 2 books, and design a conference. BUT God…he knew what was up ahead for me. Sigh…I am thankful.

Today’s surprise is when I connected with an out of state radio station to advertise my book on a website. The reply was more than I requested. Advertisement on their website, all paper copy and radio ads were quoted at an affordable price.

The surprise- At no additional cost I will have the opportunity to be interviewed live by phone for a daily show, along with recorded interviews on 2 additional programs.

Everything I do cost money, including the roof over my head. If you are interested in giving simply go to this link or message me for additional ways to give.

Writing and the Wall, with Nancy

I will push through to the other side, and finish what is before me.

From my desk to yours….

On Tuesday I began to write, write, write. It is Thursday and I am still writing. This week is not a week of working on my book. Instead it is a week of writing copy for promotion. We live in a world that as writers we are required to do much of our own copy and promotion.

I have written to you in the past that my writing consists of blogs, books, conferences, workshops, and social media writing. This week my head is spinning with copy, and it is all necessary. I decided to expanded Relationships of the Heart.

This requires money, so along with my piles of writing requirements is writing copy for crowdfunding. Below I share 2 of my links to check them out. Along with the unfolding of my new website.

As I write this to you, my first thought is I long to set all of what I write above aside, and work on my book. In reality this is not going to happen. Instead I will push through to the other side, and finish what is before me. Then I will jump back into the community book writing.

Keep writing my friends. It is best to remind ourselves even if we are lifetime writers, there is more to life than sitting by ourselves and writing. People are important, it’s a constant challenge to find the balance, but it is important. If you feel like you are hitting a wall, take smaller steps forward and continue on.

Writing and Walking Through Our Life

I  write, and I write, and I write. I write conference, workshop material, books, marketing copy, and blogs. Yes, I write.

Writing my memoir is a process. It is a process of walking through my life, and at the same time looking at the past, and keeping the past the past.

This morning at 9 a.m. I changed my focus for my memoir one more time. I shall be 60 soon, and I have years of life behind me.

This morning I am settling on my focus. I will be writing with transparency the ups and downs from when God called me to lead, years ago, to today.

My first book was, “A Hurting Heart Turned Inside Out.” This story will be told by looking on the inside at myself, and sharing with my readers.

It is time. It is a time for honesty and for transparency.

Selah (Pause) Continuing on. I hope you stay on journey with me, as I write and share what is going on with me.

AND

maybe by telling my story, you will no longer feel as if you are living on an island as a woman who leads.

Writing – What works best for me?

Do you struggle with your writing location or writing style? I share a few ideas for writing locations and various styles in this blog.

What works for one writer does not always work for another. It is necessary for each writer to find their best location to write, their style, genre, and their sweet spot.

Photo above- My desk in Tanzania. At this desk, I revised the Relationships of the Heart Conference material to fit the culture of a Tanzanian village.

My writing style changes according to the various genres I am working on. A few examples of my style.

1- In the past I was a guest writer for a newspaper with a focus on a specific topic. The maximum length of the article was a maximum of 250 words and designed to encourage the readers in a specific area. My writing was a combination of fiction and non-fiction.

2- Writing for Global Prayer Digest. 250 words required. I received research material from the Editor In-Chief to organize the writing. Once again the writing required a specific topic.

3- Blog posts- My writing for blog posts is dependant on the blog I am publishing on. My blogs are for Writers, Teachers, Leaders, and Misc.

4- My book, “A Hurting Heart Turned Inside Out,” (available directly from me for a discounted price or on Amazon in paperback or on Kindle) is stories from my life, and questions for the reader to apply to their own life.

5- My most recent book, “Quotes from the Heart for Women Leaders,” (available directly from me or on Amazon in paperback or on Kindle) is quotes from my online writing from my various social media platforms and groups.

6- My social media writing is made up of fiction and non-fiction, dependant on my audience.

7- When I lead a Relationships of the Heart Conference/Workshop, invited as a guest speaker, my podcast show, or anything requiring me to speak this requires me to write copy.

8- I am working on my memoir. A story from a specific area of my life.

9- Future writing, a fiction book. A few pages are already sitting in my files.

My location for writing changes according to my mood, and the focus required.

A few examples of my writing locations.

1- When I am not struggling with my writing in the areas of procrastination and uncontrolled distractions working from my desk in my home office works the best.

2- A local library. The library location changes according to where I am living. I have sat in business sections, open areas, and private meeting rooms when one is available.

3- A local park, when the weather is appropriate. When I write in a park I usually write using a legal pad. I have sat at a picnic table alongside of a river. In a relaxing chair, on the beach. On a blanket on a beach or alongside of a river. My outside writing areas include, a cooler with a lunch or snacks. The key to the above locations is this is a relaxing setting for me.

4- At a ballpark when the gate is open and very few people are around.

5- On a long international flight. I don’t sleep well, when I fly. Writing assists me to pass the time.

6- In a hotel room. In the past I spent 23 days shut away in a hotel, with only a couple of visitors. This is where the book, “Quotes from the Heart, for Women Leaders, ” was written.

7- Riding on a long distance bus ride.

I hope one of my places for writing, gives you a few ideas. For some writers moving around to write maybe distracting, but for me a change of location, spurs me on.
