The Tear, Sliding Down My Cheek

How can we serve you?

It was a long week this week. Filled with walks for exercise to stay healthy. The Covid19, news everywhere, attending an afternoon workshop on the topic of Immigration Law & Policy, and the daily leadership requirements of Relationships of the Heart for Leaders.

BUT

After a long week, I am writing to you my friends, and it is 2:38 a.m. in the morning.

Go ahead ask the question, “Why are you writing this blog post at 2:38 am? The answer is simple. I was sooooo very busy on Friday, I did not have a cup of coffee until mid evening.

My plan was to have one cup, but I continued to slowly sip more than one, and here I am writing to you.

Lately, I am struggling a bit as a writer. It’s not because, I am experiencing writer’s block, or that I do not have the time.

It is because, I am working on a book, that is difficult to place on paper. It is the stark truth, about living in a mid size city.

The difficulty is, the truth on the underside of the city is beginning to surface. It is the underside of a city, that has been submerged under a pile of denial for years.

AND NOW

there is a big part of the story, that I will not need to share or write about.

Why? Because it is no longer hidden. It is in the news, online, and it is tearing apart families.

Homicide, guns, stabbing, drugs, alcohol, theft, abuse, committed by the young and the old.

Amongst the new buildings, parks, festivals, committees, and promotions, the homeless walk, ride bikes, and some carry backpacks.  The young and the old.

They silently walk in and out of all that shines, and promotes beauty. Many have a tired look on their faces, but they continue on.

As for me, I continue to work on my book, and one day, the full story will be revealed.

One woman, who arrived in a city many years ago. She began her journey in the city, in the corporate world, and eventually became part of the city that no one sees.

In this city I learned what it is like, to lose almost everything I own. I learned what it is liked to live on the edge of homelessness. I learned about how people judge, and about power control.  I learned what it is to be faceless, and the necessity of a zip code or to become a number.

Eventually I will leave this city behind, and my book will be published.

The book will be dedicated to the people of the hometown I left behind long ago. They loved me enough to let me go. They taught me about community.

The book will also be dedicated to my parents.

As I write this, a tear falls down my cheek. I miss my Father, so very much. He left us a few short years ago, in his 80’s. My mother is still with us, but someday she will be gone too.

AND NOW

I press on…My prayer is that you will do the same.

Go here to assist me at Relationships of the Heart for Leaders. We are in need of additional funding as we expand and grow.

Hey Writing Friends, A Song for You!

Writers who are serious about writing, understand the seasons of struggle.

Writers also may become discouraged. It is hard to explain to people who do not write, the energy needed to write.

I stumbled on this song today, and I thought this may possibly, encourage you to keep on trying. Keep on writing even if you fear failure.

Gone, Writing with the door shut

Nancy, Facebook Live, Sept, 2018 (2)

A few weeks ago I decided it was time to buckle down, stop procrastinating, sit in the chair and finish this book!  It is Volume 1 of a series.

As writers it is important to check out of a few places, and projects in life to finish the task. Otherwise we will be an author of books, that were never written.

Today my paperback proof copy arrived. It is exciting to hold the first copy in my hands. As writers I am sure you may feel the same.

As soon as I opened up the book, I noticed a couple of errors. This is why it is important if possible, to order a hard copy of our book in our hands.

Quotes from the Heart will be released next week.

AND THEN

I will step into finishing the book on community. The Community book is a 3 year project. The research is finished and a rough outline is in place.

AND AT THE SAME TIMe

I will be working on my memoir. Writing from the depths of my heart.

2019 is my year of completion. I hope you will choose the same.

From my desk to yours, wishing you well.

Nancy

Snow, Writing, and Cardio

This morning I opened my eyes to the land of snow.

I enjoy sitting at my desk today, because life only requires me to go outside for a short time.

IMG_20190119_104158464_HDR

This morning I opened my eyes to the land of snow. I enjoy sitting at my desk today, because life only requires me to go outside for a short time.

I live in a place where we are to share snow removal duties for our small porch, but usually I am the one who grabs the shovel and gets the job done!

I try to remind myself, this provides me with my cardio workout without going to the gym. It costs me nothing!

In this season of my life, the majority of what I am doing requires me to sit. This means I need to intentionally get up and get going!

I will be back with a 2nd post to share an inside look on my current marketing, for my writing.  Then I will be working on the cover and back of the book, “Quotes from the Heart for Women Leaders.”

I will share a little about podcasts, interviews and linking arms with others.

Thanks for following me!

Groaning on the Inside, Expanding on the Outside

keyboard, hp, mouse, mousepad

Groan, groan, groan…

Have you ever silently groaned on the inside, because you were so, so tired?

For me tonight is a night of I am shouting in the inside, “I am tired!!!”

Yet, it is not a tiredness, because I have not had enough rest.

It is a tiredness, because I worked HARD today. I was productive today!

I am in a season of trying my best to write 1000 plus words for my memoir.

I am making it through, missing a couple of days, but I catch up the next day.

My writing includes hours of writing letters. The old fashion kind, place a stamp on it type of letters. This is good, because our world is now recognizing, the need for online mail, and offline mail.

I am writing a lot of copy these days. Copy for book marketing. Copy for the conference I lead. Copy for raising finances to expand, “The Relationships of the Heart Boot Camp.”

(I will share my copy at the bottom of this post.)

As a writer in today’s world it is important to have an online platform, and connected with people before a book launches and we are running out the gate.

For me I have one book to be published before the end of 2018. 2 more to be published in 2019!

Writing, pounding the keys. and continuing on. For now, I shall shut my eyes, for the keyboard will be at my desk tomorrow, waiting for me.

My latest work below…

Expanding The Relationships of the Heart Boot Camp

Writing with you,

Nancy J.

The Dark Side of Writing, with Nancy

The dark side is a lonely place. It is not a place of community, because in order to write we must be alone. It is not a time of chatting with others. It is a time of pushing through with our writing.

dark, woman, molly-belle-73279-unsplash

For some authors a dark side of writing exists. It is the place where our conscious mind enters the scene as we write about emotional pain, grief, suffering, or destruction.

We my cry and feel pain whether we are writing fiction or non-fiction. We may become angry, and frustrated. There will be occasions in this place, where we will want to quit.

This is the dark side of writing. The self-doubt, the self criticism, the questioning of ourselves, wondering if what we write is good enough for others to read.

The dark side is a lonely place. It is not a place of community, because in order to write we must be alone. It is not a time of chatting with others. It is a time of pushing through with our writing. Even if we cry as we write about our life experience or a fictitious situation, the emotion is deep and sometime turns into darkness.

When the moment of darkness arrives we must remind ourselves, this is all part of the journey and life of a writer.  The dark side of a writer is necessary. For this is the place where our emotions will flow out into our writing.

Without darkness, there is no comparison to joy, and laughter. Without laughter and joy there is no comparison for darkness.

The key is, when we find ourselves wading into the dark side, we must be sure we do not stay in this place.

In the middle of today I stepped into the dark side of writing. As I finished, I looked out the window and the sun is shining brightly and soon I will venture out for a walk, to ensure, I step back out into the beauty of life.

Staying in the darkness is not an option…

Your comments and thoughts are welcome.

Memoir Writing, From the Desk to the Deck

Nancy, youtube, memoir, announcement (3)

On Friday afternoon I dived into my memoir writing. I began with a few rambling notes. Then I moved to a rough draft introduction, and finally into chapter titles.

This version is my rough, rough, draft. It is the place where I lay aside perfect grammar, and perfect punctuation. It is the place where I allow whatever begins to flow from this section of my life to flow.

I moved from typing in my office, to the deck outside my door, to writing in cursive. I love to sit outside, with no shoes, dressed in comfy clothes, with sheets of paper, pens and highlighters in front of me.

The place I love, the place I find peace, the place of no perfection. Only my thoughts of my past and my current life.

The place of memoir. The place of admitting, this is my 3rd book, and it possibly will change my life and the life of others once it is available to the public.

Memoir, a story of a life turned inside out for all to see.
