Learning from Anne Lamott

As a writer, speaker and teaching I learn about life, God and writing from Anne Lamott. Below is a video I listened to today.

One way I motivate myself, is to listen to successful writers. I especially enjoy listening to writers who share their life and writing in a transparent style. I hope you enjoy listening to Anne too!

Passionate, Romantic, and Lover

858888_10151471204498556_1666534164_o

This morning I ponder the words; passion, travel, writing. romance and love.

My passion is to raise up and encourage men and women leaders, around the world.

My passion for people leads me to travel and to write about my travel.

My writing leads me to places lodged in my unconscious mind and corners of my heart forever.

Ahhhh……Romance….Yes I am a passionate romantic.

With age it seems to increase instead of decrease. I have been told, “Nancy you are too much for me!”

Others around me work hard at trying to find a way, to sit and gaze at yesterday.

Me, my desire is to keep the flame of passion for life burning brightly.

  • Traveling until this body is unable to board a plane.
  • Writing until my life on this earth is over.
  • Keeping my eyes and heart open to romance and love.
  • Knowing living a life wired with passion, romance and love, is capable of causing me pain.

Love, love, love….what is that old saying, “it is love that makes the world go round.” It’s more than being young at heart.

It is a way of life, laughing as we go….

Will you join me, and live life to the fullest?

Nancy

The world of writing, design and creativity

keyboard, hp, mouse, mousepad

The life of  writing and designing wrapped in creativity may bring joy to our life. Others times we may find it is a struggle. Yet, we continue to write with joy, in the middle of life’s struggles and day to day living.

I finally finished a short little PDF book, “Quotes from the Heart for Women Leaders.”  My plan was to write and publish quickly. Instead my plan changed and the final book required more time than I planned.

BUT

It is now finished and available to the public. Check out my about page for book details. “Quotes from the Heart for Women Leaders is available as a gift, when you purchase, A Hurting Heart.”

I am in the middle of a long term goal called, “Relationships of the Heart Boot Camp for Leaders.” On the inside where the planning and writing is happening, it is requiring me to use many different styles of writing.

At the center of the planning, (this keeps the writing focused) is the Relationships of the Heart Conference/Workshop material. If you are reading this don’t tune me out and think, “this is not writing, Nancy is talking about a conference and workshop.”

This is where the thinking is wrong. For me there is more hours than I can count in the area of writing a conference/workshop. Edits, more edits, questions, cultural understanding, pilot programs, more edits rewrites and a cup running over with patience!

FINALLY

an entire package of writing from the conference/workshop is in the works for material for DVD’s, CD’s, videos and more.

Today’s world of writing is changed. From non-fiction, to fiction. From eBooks, paperbacks, audio books, and pdf’s, to various shapes and sizes.

The world of writing is changed forever.

To my friends and writers who struggle with a specific style and type of writing, maybe it is time to try a different style.

It is possible non-fiction is more your style and you are hammering away at fiction. It is possible fiction is more your style and you are hammering away at fiction. I am not saying to give up when writing becomes difficult. Instead I am saying, it is ok to try another style.

The next chapter of my writing in it’s beginning stages is memoir writing. Stay tuned for future posts. I will place the words (Memoir) at the end of each post title to assist people to quickly find the posts on my memoir topic.

Be sure to place your email address in the follow blog by email bar. It will assist you to not miss a post.

Share your thoughts in the comment section. Let me know your favorite personal style of writing, and your least favorite. Let’s learn from one another.

Until I return,

Nancy

When The Writer Disappears

What is going on when the writer disappears.

weebly-screen-shot-relationships-with-nancy

Do you ever find it necessary to disappear? The disappearance is not because of stress, anger or emotional pain, instead it is a time to withdraw into productivity.

My writing world requires me to pull back and at the same time stay connected. The pulling back is not easy to do in our social media connected world.

I am not in a season of locking myself away to write my second book. Instead I am working on redesigning a conference I lead to offer an online course on Relationships.

This is a different type of writing in comparison to writing a book.

Writing no longer looks like it did a few years ago. Books, magazines and letters are no longer the only style of writing.

Instead we write short sentences on twitter. We chat on Facebook feeds, private, personal and group pages.

Include blogs, websites, podcast and video and the writing of content is endless.

Will I ever sit down again and work on the book on community? Yes, this will happen soon. I am learning to write with a timer.

I set my app for 2 hours, shut down social media and turn off my phone.

A word to my writing friends– Do not give up. Set up a writing schedule that will work best for  you.

Don’t wait until you have a full day to write. In all I do I find writing, designing and preparation requires discipline.

No one can make another person live a disciplined life. The choice is ours, which will we choose.
